The Man Behind the Music
Sean Keys, born Shawn Willis, in Metairie, Louisiana, began his musical journey at age 5 playing organ in his Godfather's church in the neighborhood he grew up in. Performing & creating music seemed to come natural to him. There, Sean honed his skills and began playing multiple instruments without any formal training; truly, revealing that God had placed the gift of music inside of him.
At the age of 17, Sean began his professional music career as a touring musician/music director with several local & national gospel artists, traveling the country & sharing his gift. While on the road, he and fellow band members would compose & arrange the music for the artists' shows. He created amazing intros, transitions, and outros for these shows. It was during this time that his passion for music production became apparent.
In 2000, Sean launched his production/songwriting company SmoothTunes Productions and As an up-and-coming producer, the opportunity to produce and write music were plentiful on a local level but became even greater when he was approached by National Recording Artists & Stellar Nominated Group 'BLESSED'. He was asked to produce several tracks on their (2006) project 'Unshakeable' along with Grammy Award winning producer Kevin Bond. In 2008, Sean Keys gained widespread recognition for his production with several up and coming independent artists.
The blessings were only beginning...in 2011, he wrote on and co-produced the compilation project 'The Countdown'. This phenomenal project yielded four (4) Rhythm of Gospel Award, three (3) Prayze Factor Award & eight (8) South Florida Gospel Music Award nominations. Also, during this time, as a musician, Sean worked with Faith Evans, Syleena Johnson, KeKe Wyatt, Monifa, & Nikki Gilbert, known as the R&B Divas and appeared on the HIT reality TV show for TVOne highlighting their performance on the Essence Festival Main Stage. Sean Keys’ current and continued success of multiple Billboard Charting records, has made him become one of gospel music’s most sought after producers.
